Americanah

“Why did people ask "What is it about?" as if a novel had to be about only one thing.”

                                                                                                                                       -  Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Brooding with the aspirations of immigration of the characters set in an  emerging democracy in a third world nation with a love story at its heart,Adichie has an important tale to tell.

Native Nigerian protagonist Ifemulu immigrates towards the american dream. While navigating through experiences of a long distance relationship, cultural switch, interpreting racism and expectations of a black student in white society, the story spreads across continents and several characters, which in my opinion do not dilute the main plot but rather enriches it.

As an indian reader I was able to connect with the characters, with slight nostalgia the plot made me reflect upon my own land and people.

Alternating between past and present in complete different worlds. The fear accompanying the ambitions of a better world loaded with hope, humour, fashion and rich ethnic experience. This book has it all.

After very long, Americanah was a book whose pages I did not wanted to skip. Include it in the list of books which change the way you look at the 'your' world.
